chickens ahoi!!

yesterday morning before work i reinforced the sides of Margaret with some smaller chicken wire, as a few days ago when i cleaned the coop and let the chickies out - the wee ones were able to get through and i had to play catch.
when i had finished, i opened the door for them and let them explore.
it was so fun to watch them, as one by one they came to the open door to see what was going on.
it took them about 30 minutes to get over their fear of the new wide open world and come down the ramp into the grass.... but boy - are they loving it out there now!
so far it has been such a delightful experience. i really enjoy being a chicken momma, and robert and i could be out there watching them for hours.

    Um, why is that one towering over the others!!??? Did you accidentally get a Cornish cross? Does she eat constantly and seem to grow much faster than the others, have thicker legs etc?

    she was already bigger than the others when we got them - so i am thinking she is either a freak of nature for being so much bigger, older, or not a longhorn at all. no, besides being bigger, she looks just like the others.......no special traits other than that she would like to be in charge, but the reds wont pay any attention to her.....
